Quick answers to the questions new managers ask most.
Quick Answers
Everyone starts somewhere. These are the questions managers ask most, from the very first invite code to the last matchweek of the season. Tap a question to see its answer, and head to the glossary if a word is unfamiliar.
How do I join a league?
Ask your commissioner, the person who runs the league, for its invite code. Enter it with a team name that nobody else in the league is using (at least three characters), and you’re in as your team’s manager, as long as the league still has a free spot.
Do I need to be the commissioner to play?
Not at all. Anyone with an invite code can join a league and manage a team. The commissioner looks after setup and admin, and plays with a team of their own.
What is a snake draft?
In a snake draft, the pick order reverses every round, so the team that picks last in one round picks first in the next. That keeps things fair, because nobody always gets first choice. A linear draft repeats the same order every round.
What happens if I miss my draft pick?
If your league uses a pick timer and it runs out, auto-pick chooses for you. It starts with the first player in your queue who is still available and fits a position you need. If there’s nobody suitable there, it takes the best available player at a position you still need, and if there are none, the best player available overall. Plenty of leagues draft with no timer, in which case the draft simply waits for you.
Can I trade draft picks?
Yes, once the picks exist and your league allows trades. In a dynasty league, next season’s picks can be traded as soon as the current draft is finished. In other leagues the picks are created when the draft starts, and trades are switched off while the draft is running unless your commissioner allowed them.
How are points calculated?
Touchline turns real match stats into fantasy points. Every action, like a goal, an assist or a clean sheet (when a team concedes no goals), is worth a set number of points depending on the player’s position, and your team’s score is the total from your starting XI. A clean sheet needs the player to play at least 60 minutes.
Are scores final while a match is being played?
Not until full time. Scores update live while matches are being played, and are replaced by official scores after full time. If a stat is corrected later, such as after a VAR review, the week is re-scored automatically.
How is a double matchweek scored?
If a club plays twice in one matchweek, a player’s score for the week is his single highest-scoring match, not the total of both.
What if a real match is postponed?
A postponed match earns no points, and the matchweek isn’t complete until every real fixture in it has been played or called off, so the standings wait.
How do I choose a captain?
Only if your commissioner has switched captaincy on. If they have, tap the C beside one of your starters on the Squad page and, by default, his points are doubled. The pick locks when his club’s match kicks off. A vice-captain is your backup, and only gets the bonus if your captain doesn’t play.
Does my bench come on if a starter doesn’t play?
No. There are no automatic substitutions. If a player in your starting XI doesn’t play, he scores nothing, so check the real life lineups before kickoff. The one exception is bench boost, where your commissioner has switched it on and you still have a use left: your bench’s scores are added to your total for that matchweek.
Can I change my lineup after games have started?
Yes, for players who haven’t locked yet. Lineups lock player by player, not all at once, so once a player takes the pitch in a real match you can’t move him, but you can keep making changes for players who haven’t come into the game yet.
Who can I put on injured reserve?
Any player who is currently out or doubtful, for example through injury or suspension. Injured reserve is a spare slot for players who can’t play, so it doesn’t use up a squad place. A healthy player can’t be moved there.
What if my league has an odd number of teams?
Each week, one team plays an artificial opponent whose score is the average of every other team’s total. It’s not a bye, so nobody gets an automatic win.
What happens when teams are level in the table?
In a head-to-head league the table is ranked on league points: 3 for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. Teams that finish level are separated by the tiebreakers your commissioner chose, which are Points For, then Head to Head, then Bench Points by default.
What is FAAB?
FAAB is the waiver budget: a pot of virtual money every team gets to bid with on players from the waiver wire. The highest bid wins, and if two bids tie, the team with the better waiver priority gets the player. You only pay if you win.
Why can’t I add a player who was just dropped?
When a player is dropped, he goes on the waiver wire instead of straight to free agency. For a short window, 48 hours by default, every team can bid on him, and when the window closes the best bid wins.
Can I change or cancel a waiver bid?
Yes. Open Manage Bids on the Squad page to edit or cancel a bid any time before the window closes. Other teams can’t see your bids.
How do trades work, and how long do they take?
Build your offer in the Trade Builder and send it to another team, which can accept or decline. If nobody answers, it expires after 48 hours by default. An accepted trade is processed within a few minutes, unless your commissioner has set a review period, and it waits for any locked player to be free to move.
How does the watchlist work?
Tap the Watch toggle on a player in the Market to add him to your private watchlist, which has its own tab on the Transfers page. You’ll get a notification when a player you’re watching becomes available, is claimed by another team, or is traded.
Which notifications will I get, and can I turn them off?
Touchline can notify you about your draft turn, trades, waiver results, player availability and your watchlist. You can switch each kind on or off under Settings in your profile, and alerts about other teams’ roster moves are off by default.
Can I change my league’s settings after the draft?
Mostly no. Once the draft begins, the roster, scoring, draft, transfer, waiver and dynasty settings are locked, for the commissioner too, so past scores stay fair. The league name and currency stay editable.
What happens at the end of the season?
In a head-to-head league, once the last matchup has been played the final table is locked in, the team ranked first is the champion, and the league moves into the offseason. There are no playoffs. The commissioner then renews the league for a new season or archives it, and a dynasty league keeps each team’s chosen keepers.
What can a commissioner do if something goes wrong?
Commissioner Tools let your commissioner pause new roster moves, trades and lineup changes across the league, add or drop a player on any team, and re-score a matchweek after a lineup is corrected. They can also edit any lineup and process a trade between two teams without waiting for the other side to accept.
Does Touchline fantasy cost money?
No. There are no entry fees or payouts in Touchline fantasy leagues.
